Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 2010

Although it was EARLY in the morning (*yawn!*) we had a great turnout for the 2010 San Antonio Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Many thanks to Dana Calonge with Alterman Electric for chartering an amazing bus & providing delicious pre-race refreshments as well as adorable “goodie bags” for entertainment on the way to the Alamodome. Our group was decked out in red “NAWIC Chick” shirts created by Jan Meuth with You Name It Specialties, and we were able to quickly find each other in the crowd by following our red NAWIC umbrella in the air! Part of our group completed the one mile, and many of us went on to attack the 5K portion. Following the event, we were chartered back to Magnolia Pancake House to replace the calories we had just burned with pancakes, syrup & butter! Although the room fit 20, we managed to squeeze 26 in there... (there are no secrets among the group anymore.) Many of our chapter members were walking in memory of Olga Barnett, and a tale or two about our lovely Olga was shared that day bringing smiles and laughter to the newer members who didn't have the opportunity to meet her. In addition, our group had a few “pink shirt” runners - denoting they had battled breast cancer themselves and WON! Even with Dana's “flashing” attempt to signal our bus (and subsequent police officer visit), the day was a wonderful success, and we were honored to be a part of such an inspirational event.
